Pouteria sp. "Zapote de Necoclí" is a rare and likely undescribed species from the Colombian Caribbean coast, discovered in the wild forests of Necoclí, Antioquia. With a rounded form and thin, slightly rough green peel that softens upon ripening, this fruit reveals a vibrant yellow, floury pulp enveloping several seeds. Its flavor is reminiscent of canistel but milder, with subtle hints of mango, making it ideal for fresh eating as well as for use in cakes, ice creams, and other desserts. Still largely unknown and underutilized, this unique Sapotaceae represents a promising discovery for tropical fruit collectors, chefs, and conservationists.
