Alibertia sessilis, also known as "Marmelada de Cachorro", is an evergreen shrub or small tree that can grow between 2.5 to 4 meters tall. The short the trunk of a treebole branches from low down can be between 15 to 20 cm in diameter. The fruit of this tropical plant is round and black, with a diameter of around 3cm, and has a thin skin and fleshy pulp containing many small seeds.
The pulp has a sweet flavor and is commonly used to make jams and preserves, is native to South America, including Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Argentina, and grows well in humid and shady environments such as rainforests and gallery forests.
The fruit is harvested from the wild and used as a food source by local communities. In addition, the plant is used in traditional medicine to treat a variety of ailments, such as inflammation, fever, and infections.
