Annona cherimolioides is a unique fruit tree native to Colombia and Ecuador, thriving in the Andean regions of Antioquia, Caldas, Cundinamarca, Norte de Santander, Quindío, and Valle. Found at altitudes ranging from 900 to 2450 meters, this species produces oval-shaped fruits measuring up to 15 cm long and 8 cm wide. When ripe, the fruit turns a rich brown color, revealing a creamy white pulp filled with multiple seeds.
Highly aromatic with a scent reminiscent of guanabana (soursop), the fruit offers a smooth texture and a balanced flavor that is slightly sour and subtly sweet. Its pleasant taste makes it a versatile ingredient, particularly prized for making refreshing juices and sorbets. Annona cherimolioides is a delightful representation of the biodiversity of the Andes, cherished for its distinctive aroma, flavor, and culinary potential.
