Sandoricum koetjape, also known as "Santol", is a large evergreen tree with a dense, oval canopy of a treecrown and a branchless the trunk of a treebole that can grow up to 50 meters tall and 100 cm in diameter. It is cultivated in tropical areas for its edible fruit, which has a whitish, translucent, subacid pulp with a good flavor that can be eaten fresh or used in making jams, jellies, and marmalade.
The fruit can be either thin or thick-skinned with a sweetish or somewhat sour pulp, depending on the variety. The fruit is about the size of a clenched fist and contains one or two large seeds, though seedless varieties also exist. The tree also has traditional medicinal uses and produces useful timber, and is often grown as an ornamental tree in parks and along roads.
