This tree is native to South America, particularly found in Paraguay, central and eastern Brazil, and Bolivia. It thrives in savannah areas, both in primary and secondary woodlands, usually on upper slopes with well-drained soils.
The bark of Dimorphandra mollis serves various purposes, including medicinal uses such as wound treatment and addressing skin issues. It is also a source of astringent organic compound commonly found in the skin of certain fruitstannins, dyestuffs, and ink. However, it's important to note that the seedpods of this tree are toxic to cattle. In terms of cultivation, it requires a sunny location and can tolerate poor and dry soils once established. While newly planted young trees are slow to grow, they eventually establish themselves. Dimorphandra mollis has a symbiotic relationship with certain soil bacteria, aiding in nitrogen fixation.
