Eugenia excelsa, which lends its name to a small group of just 5 species of the huge genus Eugenia (more than 1,050 representatives, mainly in South America): the section Excelsae.
Its fruits with long stems (A stem that attaches a single flower to a flower structure.pedicels), born in the the angle between the upper side of a leaf and the supporting stemaxils of the leaves, resemble the group called grumixamas by the Tupi Indians.
Its pulp is purplish red, very rich in anthocyanins, which can stain your hands when handling it.
