Eugenia hiemalis, also known as Winter Guamirin, is a native plant mainly found in the Brazilian Cerrado. It produces small brown or black elongated fruits with a neutral flavor. However, the fruits are said to be useful in treating diarrhea or stomach upset.
The plant is highly ornamental, producing reddish-brown shoots and white-pink flowers in late winter that attract honey bees. Its fruits are food for birds and it is a fast-growing, easy-to-cultivate species that tolerates most soils, except for soggy ones. Eugenia hiemalis is also useful in reforestation of degraded areas.
