Quite rare in nature, it occurs in restinga forests in the Southeast region and in Santa Catarina.
Rounded fruits measuring about 2 cm, with a persistent The outermost leaves/petals/carpels/stamens of the flowercalyx, dark red and slightly hairy (velvety) skin, as can be seen in the first photo. Its pulp is yellow-orange and juicy, with a sweet and pleasant flavor. The plant is a small tree or shrub a few meters tall (second image), with new reddish-brown and hairy foliage.
The fruits are highly appreciated in their natural state, and provide the same uses as the common grumixama (Eugenia brasiliensis): jelly, juice, ice cream, etc. The plant is enthusiastically recommended for pots, as it is small and bears fruit early, at 2-3 years of age.
