Eugenia sp. "Calix Bento"

Eugenia sp. ‘Calix Bento’ is an extraordinspecialized outward growth surrounding a seedarily rare species native to the mountainous interior of northwestern Minas Gerais, Brazil, where it is known from only a single documented tree. This elusive small to medium-sized tree is adapted to highland conditions, though its full growth characteristics remain largely unknown due to its extreme rarity.  The fruit, locally prized and described as sweet, is affectionately called a “mountain fruit.” Its exquisite The outermost leaves/petals/carpels/stamens of the flowercalyx structure, coupled with its near-mythical scarcity, makes Calix Bento one of the most coveted Eugenias among elite collectors of Brazil’s native fruit biodiversity.
