Garcinia xanthochymus

Garcinia xanthochymus, also known as the false mangosteen, gamboge, yellow mangosteen, Himalayan Garcinia, or sour mangosteen, is a species of mangosteens found from India, southern China, and Japan through Indochina to Peninsular Malaysia. This evergreen tree grows between 8 to 15 meters tall, with more or less horizontal branches and a dense pyramidal canopy of a treecrown. The leaves are large, leathery, and oblong to lance-shaped, and the tree produces small flowers.

The fruit is a golden yellow berry, 3-4 inches in diameter, with a yellow, juicy, and acidic pulp usually containing two seeds. The flavor is quite tasty, albeit a bit sour. This species is known for its phytochemical constituents, including xanthones.
