Lecythis pisonis

Lecythis pisonis, commonly known as the sapucaia tree, cream nut, or monkey pot, is a tropical tree native to South America, particularly Brazil. It is renowned for its distinctive large, woody fruit capsules that resemble pots, which contain edible seeds known for their pleasant taste. The tree is also appreciated for its ornamental value, featuring new pink foliage and striking purple flowers that bloom during certain times of the year. Traditionally, the seeds have been consumed both raw and cooked; however, some studies have indicated the presence of certain heavy metals in the seeds, which may limit their use as food.
