Named for the color of the trunk, when peeling the bark it shows several hues of brown-red-green in a very beautiful effect. It's found on the highlands of Serra dos Órgãos in Rio de Janeiro, where it can stand low temperatures near 32⁰ F. Very old trees about 4 to 6 m. The closest name to this species should be Myrcia neolucida (synonym Calyptranthes lucida), but it may be a closely related, undescribed species .Skin and pulp edible, nicely aromatic and sweet, not tingly, drying sensationastringent, flavor like orange skin candied.
