Naucleopsis ulei Seeds
Naucleopsis ulei is a rare and lesser-known tree species in the Moraceae family, native to the Amazon rainforest of South America, including regions of Brazil, Peru, and Colombia. This genus is closely related to Brosimum and Artocarpus, and like many Moraceae species, Naucleopsis ulei is a canopy or subcanopy tree found in humid tropical lowland forests.
While detailed documentation on Naucleopsis ulei is scarce, species in this genus are typically male and female reproductive organs in separate individuals - you need 2 (male and female) for fruitdioecious (having separate male and female trees) and are known for producing edible or ecologically important fruits. The fruits are often fleshy a fleshy fruit with thin skin and a central stone containing the seeddrupes or made of multiple carpels - sectionedsyncarps, potentially consumed by wildlife such as monkeys, birds, and rodents, contributing to seed dispersal in rainforest ecosystems.
The wood of some Naucleopsis species is hard and durable, sometimes used locally for construction or tools. In certain cases, latex or medicinal compounds have also been attributed to members of this group, although such uses for N. ulei specifically are not well-documented.
Because of its restricted native habitat and limited cultivation, Naucleopsis ulei holds interest for botanists, ethnobotanists, and conservationists, particularly in efforts to preserve Amazonian biodiversity and explore underutilized native species with potential ecological or economic value.
If you like Naucleopsis ulei, you might also like Neomithranthes obscura or Myrciaria sp. "Scarlet"
