Plinia aureana "Branca Mel", or the "White Honey" Jaboticaba, stands out as the largest cultivated variety of Plinia aureana. Its size, coupled with its relatively smaller seeds, makes it the most sought-after among the aureana cultivars. While most Plinia aureana fruits measure between 2.0 and 2.5 cm in diameter, the Branca Mel has been observed to reach 3 cm.
Similar to other Plinia aureana varieties, the flavor of Branca Mel fruit carries a subtle hint of honey. The fruit has a smooth texture (unlike many other aureana varieties that tend to be ribbed), a round shape, and may retain minor remnants of the sepal. The leaves of this cultivar can be shorter, wider, and smoother compared to the typical form of Plinia aureana, which often have deeply veined leaves.
Branca Mel is known to bear fruit three to four times a year, starting at the age of 3.5 to 4 years, showcasing its early fruiting characteristic. This cultivar originates from the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
