Plinia aureana "Lemongrass" Seeds
Plinia aureana “Lemongrass” is a rare and captivating variety of white jabuticaba originating from Brazil’s lowland Atlantic Forest. This small tree, reaching just 2–3 meters in height, is highly prized for its distinctive fruits—green, ribbed, and flattened at the poles, borne on long stalks and offering a sweet, refreshing flavor with a subtle hint of lemon balm. The tree itself is ornamental, with light brown bark, pinkish-red new shoots, and medium to large leaves (5–7 cm long), whose upper surfaces bear prominent veins. One of its standout qualities is its early and prolific fruiting habit, producing up to three times per year from as early as 4–5 years old. The seeds are smaller than typical P. aureana, yielding a higher proportion of juicy pulp. Best suited to fertile, moist yet well-drained soils, this variety adapts well to tropical and subtropical climates. Whether enjoyed fresh or used in preserves and juices, Plinia aureana “Lemongrass” is both a flavorful fruit and a highly ornamental species, ideal for collectors and gardeners working with limited space.
