Myrciaria glomerata Seeds
Myrciaria glomerata is a rare and visually striking small tree from the Atlantic Forest of Minas Gerais, Brazil, thriving at around 1,000 meters altitude. It produces nearly spherical fruits approximately 2.5 cm in diameter, with a scarlet-red, slightly hairy skin and yellowish, sweet, non-acidic pulp. Long misidentified as Myrciaria glazioviana (the traditional "cabeludinha"), this species was only correctly introduced into cultivation in 2014, after years of confusion.
The tree grows to about 2–3 meters and is especially admired for its ornamental young foliage, making it a standout in small gardens or pots. Ideal for fresh eating, its fruits also lend themselves to juices and preserves. It thrives in subtropical and tropical climates, preferring well-drained, nitrogen-rich soils and partial shade, avoiding intense sunlight that may damage its delicate leaves. With its limited native distribution and recent emergence into cultivation, Myrciaria glomerata remains a highly prized species among rare fruit collectors and a promising addition to conservation-oriented horticulture.
If you like Myrciaria glomerata, you might also like Myrciaria guaquiea or Myrciaria glazioviana var. "Cabelluda XL"
