Native to Maranhão, Brazil, Pouteria macrophylla, commonly known as 'Tuturuba', is a fruit-bearing tree from the Sapotaceae family, highly valued for its delicious, banana-sweet flavored fruits. This fast-growing species reaches 4 to 8 meters in cultivation and up to 25 meters in its natural Amazonian habitat, boasting a spherical; globe shapedglobose, dense canopy of a treecrown that enhances its ornamental appeal. The soft, yellow pulp of its fruit is highly esteemed in traditional cuisine, consumed fresh or incorporated into desserts and local dishes. Beyond its culinary significance, Tuturuba holds timber value and is used in landscaping projects, making it a versatile species for agroforestry, reforestation, and conservation efforts in northern Brazil.
