Pouteria multiflora, also known as "Jacana", is an evergreen tree that grows up to 28 meters tall with a dense, wide canopy of spreading and slightly drooping branches. The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as food and source of good-quality wood, and its fruits are sold in local markets in Jamaica. The tree is sometimes planted in home gardens for its edible fruit and as an ornament to provide shade.
The fruit is round or elliptic, orange-yellow in color, 35-50 mm long and 30 mm wide, usually containing a single large seed. The fruit has a sparse but sweetish pulp with a creamy to pasty texture and a mild, pleasant flavor.
