It is a drops leaves annuallydeciduous tree with a pyramid-shaped canopy of a treecrown and can grow between 8 to 14 meters tall.

The seeds of Sterculia striata are used as a food source and are typically consumed raw. The tree is also known for its medicinal properties. The ethanol extract obtained from the stem bark of Sterculia striata has been reported to have anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive activities.
